This is Bruce Cissell's 1976 Omega Hatchback. I bought this jewel off the whole sellers line at the back of the Used Car lot at an Oldsmobile Dealership I worked at spinning wrenches in 1984. No it didn't have the Hardwood hood scoop or those rims and tires on it when I bought it. It looked pretty sad to tell you the truth but it's amazing what color sanding will do to a car that still wears the original paint. The body is not perfect but it's not in bad shape for what the car has been through over the years, including surviving hurricane Andrew. It's powered by a self built 1970 Olds 350, It's been bored .030" over. TRW 2320F 10 to 1 Pistons were added along with SpeedPro Plazma Moly rings. A set of massaged Olds 403 rods with SPS bolts were used to connect the pistons to the Nodular Iron Crankshaft, which has been turned 10/10. I ported the small block #6 heads and the intake ports are now .100" taller than stock big block intake ports. Some pictures of how I ported these heads can be seen here. PORTING SBO HEADS The exhaust crossovers have been filled with aluminum and the center exhaust divider made flush. I re-used the stock 2" & 1.625" valves and had a three angle valve job done. The heads were milled .013" so they would be flat, which gave me 72cc cumbuston chambers because I went a little overboard polishing them to ward off detonation with todays crappy gas. The final compression ratio is only 9.3 to 1 which allows me to run 89-93 octange pump gas with no problems on the street or at the track. A 25 year old Crane Fireball hydraulic cam with 314 degree's of advertised duration, ??? @ .050 and .480" lift with 114 lobe sep. stock rockers, Mondello SK-245-D Springs, shimmed .060" to achive 125lbs on the seat. The Holley Street Dominator intake has had 10 pounds of alumium, tig welded on the top and sides of all the runners so the ports could be opened up to match the heads. The plenum has been opened up to accomandate a Dominator carb and runner extentions have been installed. Of course I spent many of hours using wet/dry sandpaper and soap and water to get the intake to shine like it does. I use a 2" tall 4500 to 4150 adapter upside down so I could use the pictured BG Mighty Demon 750. I say this engine combo makes around 350HP. A more aggressive/modern camshaft and roller rockers would put this low compression, pump gas friendly combo closer to 400HP. Did I mention the short block has been in the car over 20 years now and has over 60,000 miles on it and 400 plus trips down the 1/4 mile and over hundred of those, Nitrous runs ??

The trans is a self built Turbo 400, that I modified as per an artical in the November 1986 issue of Super Stock Magazine called, Build a Trans that will last Forever for $5 dollars. I also did a did a couple of mods that aren't in the magazine artical that a friend told me about. I use a Darrel Young 10" 3500 stall convertor, which only cost $125 back in 1987.This trans has been in there for 20 years now and it's been punished with hundreds of full 1/4 miles passes on it, atleast a hundred nitrous runs and it even tolorated pulling my 18ft Skeeter Bass Boat to area lakes as far as 50 miles away in 95 degree heat for several years. So I would have to agree with that Super/Stock Magazines articles title, if you build a Turbo 400 right, it will last for a long, long, time. I would have to say that Darrel Young Convertor's will last forever too.

The rearend is a Chevy 12 bolt rearend with a Moroso Brute Strength posi unit along with 3.73 gears, stock C clip axles. Weld Pro/Star 15x5" rims up front with 215/75/15 radials and 15x8" with 4.5" backspacing on the rear with 275/60/15 BFGoodrich Drag Radials.

Best 1/4 mile times to date has been 12.881 @ 103.70 mph. Video of that run can be seen here. http://www.oldsmobileracersonline.com/multimedia.html

Best 1/8 mile times to date has been 8.185 @ 84.52

Best 60ft times to date 1.837

Best miles to a gallon to date has been 19mpg going 55 mph on the highway.

Future plans, install weld in frame connectors, replace rear shocks, slicks 29 1/2 X 9 Mickey's. When I get her running mid 12's I'm putting the Nitrous back on the car, it should run 10.90s easy because it ran 11.46 @ 123.11 mph when I was running 13.0's on the motor and was told to not come back until I have a roll bar in the car.
